It’s LG’s fourth straight first-round victory, a decade after the 2013-2014 season when the team won the regular season title.
Changwon LG jumped out to a 21-6 lead in the third quarter to win 69-50 at home against Seoul SK in the 2023-2024 Korean Basketball League at Changwon Gymnasium on Thursday. The win was LG’s fourth straight after losing its opening three games.
At the beginning of last season, LG had no winning streak, no losing streak, just an endless cycle of wins and losses. While it was nice to get to 5-for-5, it was disappointing to not be able to capitalize on the momentum.
With a three-game winning streak midway through the second round, LG rode the wave of momentum and eventually finished second in the regular season.
Unlike last season, this season didn’t get off to a good start. After winning a season-high two games in a row, LG lost three in a row right out of the gate.
After regrouping, the team reeled off four straight wins, setting the stage for a return to the top of the standings.
Even better, it was the first time in 10 years since the 2013-2014 season that LG had won four straight games in the first round (game #45).
LG’s longest first-round winning streaks were five in a row in the 2004-2005 and 2006-2007 seasons, and they also had four in a row in the 2000-2001, 2001-2002, and 2007-2008 seasons.
A long winning streak in the first round is no guarantee of a playoff berth. LG had a five-game winning streak in the first round in 2004-2005, but finished the season in ninth place.
This season is different. They’ve had a solid run since last season, and even defeated SK, one of the favorites to win the title.
In the 2013-2014 season, they won the regular season after 안전놀이터 winning four straight games in the first round. While there are no guarantees that they’ll win again this season, it’s a nice four-game winning streak that shows that they’re capable of making the jump to the top, just like last season.
