South Korean swimming standouts Hwang Sun-woo and Kim Woo-min (both of Gangwon Province) won a combined gold medal at the 104th Jeonnam National Sports Games to secure three and four medals, respectively.Hwang and Kim won the men’s 400-meter freestyle relay final on Sunday at Mokpo Indoor Pool in Jeonnam, South Jeolla Province, with Yang Jae-hoon and Kim Min-joon (Gangwon Provincial Government) in a time of 3 minutes, 15.94 seconds.They edged out Daegu’s Yang Seok-hyun, Ji Yoo-chan, Kim Jin-won and Lee Ho-joon (Daegu City Hall – 3:16.37) for the gold medal.Hwang won his third gold medal after winning the men’s general 800-meter freestyle relay on Friday and the men’s general 200-meter freestyle on Saturday.He will also compete in the 100-meter freestyle (18), 400-meter medley relay (19) and the men’s mixed medley relay (18), which will be a trial event.Kim won gold in the 1,500-meter freestyle on Thursday and the 800-meter freestyle relay on Friday before adding gold in the 400-meter freestyle and 400-meter medley relay on Sunday to secure a quadruple gold.
Kim has two events left to compete in: the 400-meter medley relay and the 400-meter mixed medley relay (trials).With the trials not counting towards the multi medal tally, the pair will go for a fifth.Hwang Sun-woo and Kim Woo-min are also in contention for the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.Hwang, who was the MVP of the 2021 and 2022 tournaments, will become the first player in history to win the award three years in a row.The duo suffered from food poisoning after eating the wrong food with their Gangwon Provincial Office colleagues just before the start of the tournament, but they have continued their goodwill rivalry by sweeping the gold medals despite being 안전놀이터 under the weather.
