Doosan Bears’ homegrown ace Kwak-Bin Kwak, 25, pitched a dominant game to lead his team to victory.
Kwak started the 2024 Shinhan Sol Bank KBO League home game against KT Wiz at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul on Tuesday and pitched six innings of two-hit ball with three walks and five strikeouts.
In the first inning, Kwak got Mel Rojas Jr. to fly out to left field and Cheon Sung-ho to strike out on a wild pitch before giving up a straight ball to Kang Baek-ho. He then struck out Moon Sang-chul on a strikeout to end the inning.
Kwak Bin got over the hump in the second inning. He retired Oh Jae-il and Hwang Jae-gyun on back-to-back singles, but was hit by a double off the bat of Bae Jae-dae. With the bases loaded, Kwak struck out Kim Sang-soo on a fly ball to left field.
In the third inning, Kwak showed off his crisis management skills. He gave up a single to Rojas and a walk to Kang Baek-ho to put runners on first and second, then induced Moon Sang-chul to ground out, but third baseman Lee Yoo-chan made a throwing error to load the bases. However, Oh Jae-il struck out swinging to end the threat.
In the fourth inning, Hwang struck out Hwang Jae-gyun and gave up a walk to Bae Jae-dae, but Kim Sang-soo got out of the jam with a fly ball to center field. Catcher Yang Yang-ji then threw out Choi, who tried to steal second base.
Kwak continued to cruise. In the fifth, he handled Kim Min-hyuk’s grounder to short, and Rojas and Chun Sung-ho followed with back-to-back grounders.
The sixth inning was another clean pitching performance. After striking out Kang Baek-ho on three pitches, Kwak retired Moon Sang-chul and Oh Jae-il on a grounder to first base and a straight hit to first base, respectively.
After pitching efficiently through the sixth inning with 80 pitches, Kwak Bin handed the mound baton to side-arm reliever Park Chi-guk in the seventh inning with his team leading 6-0. His fastball was clocked at 153 kilometers per hour on the day, with an average velocity of 150 kilometers per hour.
Although the bullpen gave up a run, the team held on for a 6-1 victory, earning Kwak Bin his fifth win of the season (4-0). He lowered his season ERA to 3.20 with his second 토토사이트 straight no-hitter.
After the game, Kwak Bin said, “I’m grateful to (Yang) Willie for taking a load off my shoulders in the field. Today, I threw according to his signature, so it was a good result.” ”Even in the top of the third inning, he came up at a good time, so I was able to breathe and calm down. It’s a great fortune to be able to work with the best catcher in Korea,” said Lee.
“Last weekend in Gwangju, I threw a lot of pitches and had a tough game, but today I was able to throw comfortably thanks to my beast brothers. I’m still working my way through the starting rotation, but they’re also doing a great job managing the bench and training.” ”My goal is to finish the season injury-free. I will do my best in every game to help the team climb to greater heights.”
Kwok Bin also expressed his gratitude to the fans for their support. “Despite it being a weekday, the fans who filled the first base bleachers today were really loud. Thank you for always being a great support,” he said.
