Wolverhampton have rejected Manchester City’s (Man City) offer of 47 million pounds ($787 million) for Mateus Nunes (25).
“City manager Pep Guardiola, 52, has made an initial offer for Wolverhampton’s Portugal international midfielder Mateusz Nunes ahead of next week’s summer transfer window deadline, but it was immediately rejected,” British media outlet The Telegraph reported on July 24.
According to the publication, City are preparing to send a second offer with better terms. However, the first offer reportedly fell far short of Wolverhampton’s expectations.
City lost key midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, 32, to injury in the opening game of the 2023-24 English Premier League (EPL) season. He suffered a muscle injury to the back of his thigh and is expected to miss around four months. The club added Mateo Kovacic (29) this summer to fill the void left by Ilkay Gundogan (33), who left for Barcelona (Spain), but will need to add more.
As a result, City are pushing to sign Nunes. Nunes, who joined Wolverhampton from Sporting Lisbon (Portugal) for £42 million last summer, has established himself as a key player in his first season in England, scoring two goals and providing two assists in 41 games. Liverpool have also continued to show interest in Nunes.
Wolverhampton lost key midfielder Nabil Neves, 26, to Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal this summer. They have lost their first two games of the season and conceded a 사설토토 whopping four goals in a 1-4 thrashing at Brighton in the second round.
Wolverhampton, who have been in a poor run of form to start the season, will not want to let go of another key player, Nunes. City will have to prepare a substantial transfer fee to sign Nunes.
Meanwhile, City recently moved closer to signing Belgian winger Jeremy Dokou, 21. A medical has been completed and an official announcement is expected soon. His transfer fee is expected to be around £55.5 million and he would join City as a replacement for Riyad Mahrez (32-Al Ahli), who left for Saudi Arabia.
