[Asian Games] Korea Sports Council ‘Selects and Focuses’ on Supporting Paris Olympics Based on Event Performance

Target exceeded, strengthening support for Taekwondo and fencing will likely be prioritized

The Korea Sports Council will seek ways to support the 2024 Paris Olympics, which is 10 months away,

based on the performance of each event at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games.

The basic policy is to reliably apply ‘selection and concentration’.

Taekwondo

As of the 27th, the Korean team has won 19 gold medals, 18 silver medals,

33 bronze medals at the Hangzhou Asian Games and is cruising to second place in the overall ranking.

Taekwondo and fencing won five gold medals each, dominating Korea’s performance. 바카라사이트

An official from the Korea Sports Council, which supports the athletes, said on the 28th, “We are drawing up scenarios for the maximum and minimum gold medal harvests every day,

so far, the results are close to the maximum,” and added, “The atmosphere in the athletes is very good.”

He said about the atmosphere inside the athletes’ village.

Taekwondo, which initially expected three gold medals, exceeded its goal by winning the men’s and women’s Poomsae individual competitions as well as adding three more in the sparring competition.

Park Hye-jin (Goyang City Hall), in the women’s 53kg class, took advantage of the injury of her arch-rival Taiwanese athlete to invigorate herself with a surprise gold medal,

Park Woo-hyuk (Samsung S-One), who was considered a strong gold medal candidate,

narrowly defeated an Iranian athlete in the semifinals,

which was the most critical, and advanced to the finals.

Good luck followed, such as digging for gold veins.

As expected, Korean fencing, which swept the men’s and women’s individual saber event,

women’s epee individual and team event, and men’s foil team event, is performing very well as a promising event.

However, judo and shooting fell below expectations, with only one gold medal on the verge of no-gold humiliation.

Two precious gold medals were won in the shooting men’s 10m running target normal and mixed team events,

but unfortunately, it is not an official event at the Paris Olympics.

An official from the Sports Council said, “After the Asian Games are over,

the secretariat of each event will submit a report evaluating the performance of the competition to the Sports Council,

the Performance Improvement Committee will begin a close review based on this.

As a consensus has been formed that it is difficult to support all sports equally,

“We will discuss ways to strengthen support for the Paris Olympics official events that performed well at the Asian Games,” he explained.

This official also urged the efforts of underperforming sports, saying, “In order for Korea’s ranking to rise further in international competitions, sport leaders need to be alert.”
